Dellwood's Ebony and Kyle make history!
Since the education system changed in 1997 to include middle schools, Dellwood has never had a head boy and girl. That all changed this year.
As the first ever head boy and girl of Dellwood Middle School, Kyle Outerbridge and Ebony Fray are proud to represent their school.
One of the first major duties in their newly-appointed roles was to take a trip to Hamilton to be interviewed by The Royal Gazette .
"Dellwood never had a head boy and head girl before,'' Ebony said. "We are the first class to go all the way through Dellwood from beginning to end.'' "We take a leading role in the school and represent Dellwood for the newspaper,'' Kyle said.
Both students said they felt that their roles, although special, were something that they should not be letting go to their heads.
Ebony said: "Being the head girl doesn't mean I'm better than my peers even though I do sometimes have better privileges.'' Being the head girl and boy is not as easy as it may seem. Both students feel pressured at times.
"It's hard with everyone watching you all the time,'' Ebony said.
But both students agree that the good outweighs the bad. And support from friends, family and teachers helps to get them through the tough times.
"The most important thing about being a head girl or boy is to never give up,'' Ebony said.
"Also it means you have to be a leader and not a follower,'' Kyle added.
"And you just have to keep strong.'' Their parents were happy and proud of them when Kyle and Ebony announced that they had been chosen to be the first head boy and girl at Dellwood.
Fear is not a word in either studen'ts vocabulary as they think about moving on to senior school. They both look at it as another step on the road of life.
They look forward to the new school and experiences that they will face.
A love of debating and money has led Ebony to choose law or accounting as her career goals, but she first plans to go to college to get her degree.
Kyle would like to try his hand at being a soccer star and if that does not work out, then being a doctor is a close second.
But no matter what the future holds for Kyle and Ebony both students are proud of their achievements and feel that being Dellwood's head boy and girl will only help them in the future.
