Generous gift to Bermuda
Monday.
Anthony Price and his wife Martha will hand over seven acres of land, off Somerset Road in Sandys, to the Government -- for use as a public park.
Mr. Price said he and his wife decided to make the generous donation because they did not want to see more of the Island's open space fall into the hands of developers.
"It is more land than we require,'' he explained. "And we didn't want to see it go to development.'' And he estimated that the land, next to the Heydon Trust Park, to be worth more than a $1 million.
Mr. Price said the property will be known as Virginia Park, to commemorate two special people.
"That was the name of my mother-in-law and our daughter who died 20 years ago.'' Mr. Price also expressed a hope that some of the land will be utilised by the Department of Agriculture.
"I hope that the parts of the property that we have farmed will be used by the Department of Agriculture for research.'' The official handover will take place Monday afternoon.
