Despite hailing their first two years of flights between Boston and the Island as a success, Northwest Airlines says it will not be operating the service from the middle of December until March.

The 10-week break is shorter than this year's four month stoppage but it will mean visitors from Boston will almost vanish during winter.

However, the airline is looking at providing some flights during the winter in future years.

Northwest Airlines said at times as many as 70 percent of plane seats were full on flights to Bermuda during the summer.

The 1992 season marked Northwest's second year of serving Bermuda, and it will continue a daily non-stop service to Boston until December 14. Flights will resume on March 1, after the 10-week break.

Northwest station manager, Mr. Ron Kattawar said: "Everyone at Northwest sends their thanks to residents of Bermuda who have been great customers of our airline over the past year.

"We are proud to have brought many new visitors to Bermuda in 1992 as our planes were up to 10 percent more full than in 1991.

"We have made a lot of friends in Bermuda in just two years of operations here, and we look forward to strengthening our ties to the Island in 1993.

"Northwest's identity in Bermuda has become much stronger as passengers have grown accustomed to our superior service. Next year we hope to continue flights through the off-season.''
