4-0 win over Bahamas at the Devonshire Courts last night.

Carol Ferris provided the local favourites with the title when she won in the last Veterans tie, clinching that division 3-2.

That gave Bermuda the all-important point they needed to be certain of the championship in case they are held to a draw by short-handed Jamaica this afternoon.

Bermuda, with a 7-1 divisional record, cannot be caught by either Cayman Islands (4-4) or Bahamas (3-5), as they are guaranteed of gaining at least two legs from Jamaica, who brought only Men's A and Men's B teams here and are without women and veterans.

Defending champions Jamaica relinquished their throne in falling 3-1 to Cayman Islands early yesterday.

Last night saw the women leading the way for Bermuda as they blew away their female counterparts from down south as Jaqcui White, Denise Kyme and Liz Davies each won in straight games to go with walkover victories for team-mates Janice Burns and Diane Olchowik.

On the men's side, local professional Julian Rose rebounded from the previous night's loss against John MacRury to best Bahamian Billy Albury 3-1.

Rose came out flat and lost the first game 9-3, however, found the touch and was able to cruise through the next three 9-4, 9-3, 9-5.

Also winning after suffering losses were Colin Alexander and Tommy Sherratt, the latter recording his first international triumph as a senior player.

The night's most exciting matches was in the Men's B division where James Hubbard came from two games down and 7-4 in the third to beat Leslie Deveaux 3-2.

Meanwhile, former Bermuda pro John MacRury of the Caymans continued his unbeaten streak with a handy 3-0 beating of Jamaican number one Wayne Prescod.

Caymans were in almost complete control throughout the fixture, with their only stumble occurring in the Men's B as they fell 3-2.

The competition, which is sponsored by Bermuda Commercial Bank, concludes today with Caymans facing Bahamas at 10 a.m. and Bermuda taking on Jamaica at 2 p.m.
