Race boats ready to try again
smiles on them when they attempt to get the event underway for the second time this weekend.
The BTC Mobility-sponsored event had to be postponed last Sunday when bad weather led to safety concerns.
Bermuda Weather Service issued a small craft warning and after an early morning meeting at the Ferry Reach start it was decided racing should not go ahead.
Commodore of Bermuda Powerboat Association, Craig Burt, said he was hoping for better luck tomorrow.
"The weather forecast that I got two days ago was for winds of 10 knots south-westerly which would make it OK to run. The only thing we have to look at is if the heavy showers or thunderstorms hang around because we are going to have people out on the water in support craft,'' he said.
Burt said organisers and competitors would get together on Sunday morning before the green light was given.
"There will be another meeting which drivers and co-drivers will be required to attend -- juniors and jet skis at 11.30 a.m and for the main race at 12.30 p.m,'' he said.
If the event has to be called off again a further application to race would have to be made to the Government leading to a delay of three weeks.
Remaining positive, Burt still felt it necessary to add a note of caution: "In the past we have had good forecasts and one year we were all ready to race and we had a torrential downpour and thunder and lightning which lasted for two hours, so you just never know.''
