Hockey girls aim for high finish

at the Pan Am Junior Games in Chile this week but can still salvage a highly respectable fifth or sixth place finish.

The Island team, with an average age of just over 16 making them the youngest squad competing, went down 9-0 to tournament favourites Canada and 3-0 to Uruguay.

But victory over Barbados today could send them into a play-off for the fifth and sixth places, while defeat would set up a match against Paraguay tomorrow for 11th or 12th places.

The young Bermudians, who helped raise more than $100,000 to make the trip to South America possible, scored a surprise 2-1 win over Venezuela last weekend having lost earlier to hosts Chile.
