No trouble for Hatteras
International Light Tackle Tournament drew to a close yesterday with 93 catches recorded.
Not even adverse weather conditions that had 25-knot winds producing eight-foot swells failed to deter the spirit of the competitors.
The Americans, fishing aboard captain Reggie Horseman's Equalizer , accounted for a major portion of those, giving them a final day point total of 21,622.30 for a four-day score of 96,281, which convincingly beat second-placed Reel Dealers, who could manage just 58,554.45.
Third was Freeport on 55,316.21, but they did take daily honours at 22,240.72 aboard captain Gene Barnes' Blue Chip .
Local group Bermuda Anglers had a disastrous outing that saw them slip from second to fourth. Their poor haul rated only 7,200 points, third worst on the day and gave them a total of 55,228.85.
Meanwhile, Robert Trosset completed a reel-to-reel triumph, totally outclassing the field for the fourth straight day. His 10,838.27 reading allowed him to reach a mammoth total of 45,728.20, which played no small part in his Hatteras team's victory.
Well back in second place was Trosset's team-mate Buddy Sowers (29,488.75), while Keith Winter (26,783.110 of Reel Dealers was third.
Blue Chip (captain Gene Barnes) edged by Equalizer for high boat honours at 65,727.52 compared to 62,856.27, trailed by Challenger (56,281.820) captained by Alan Card.
Lisa Booth of Reel Dealers once again found herself among the day's stars as she is believed to have broken the local record in landing a 27.4-pound Dolphin.
The largest fish caught yesterday was Pete Rose's 34-pound Yellowfin Tuna.
