Carter are in Bermuda on vacation, The Royal Gazette learned last night.
They are here for a week's holiday visiting their son Mr. Jack Carter, who moved to Bermuda last month as international portfolio manager at INVESCO Global Asset Management Ltd. (IGAM) He resides in St. George's.
Before being elected President in 1976, Mr. Carter was a member of the Georgia Senate from 1963 to 1967 and Governor of Georgia from 1971 to 1975. He held office as President from 1977 to 1981.
One of the highlights of his tenure was the Camp David peace accord when Egypt recognised Israel's right to exist. But this success was followed by the failure to free US hostages held by fundamentalists in Iran in 1980.
More recently Mr. Carter brokered the return of President Jean Bertrand Aristide to Haiti. His work as a mediator in international disputes has won him wide acclaim.
