Man jailed for TV thefts
stealing three televisions while under the influence of cocaine.
Basil M. Stewart pleaded guilty to three charges of breaking and entering properties.
Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, told Magistrates' Court that Stewart broke into a St. George's home on May 26. He gained access through an unlocked kitchen window and escaped with a TV.
Last Tuesday night, Stewart entered the garden shed of a Pembroke home and stole a TV worth $500.
He turned himself into Police the next day, said Insp. Duffy. The 35-year-old told Police he had sold the TVs to buy cocaine.
Stewart also broke into Woodmont Nursery on Dundonald Street on June 28 and stole a $400 television.
Stewart told the court: "I was under the influence of cocaine when I did these crimes.'' Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis sentenced him to three prison terms of six months, to run consecutively.
