guilty to driving without due care.

Marcel Allison Reid Rubaine, 23, of Secret Lane, Pembroke, was told by Acting Senior Magistrate Edward King that the maximum fine for the offence was $500 and the minimum was $200.

Mr. King asked Rubaine what he thought his penalty should be, saying: "Let me see if you can fine yourself properly.'' Rubaine replied that $250 sounded reasonable.

Mr. King then passed his note pad to a Police officer, who read that Mr. King had also written down $250.

"You see, just tune in and you can read me,'' Mr. King told the court.

Earlier the court heard that Rubaine was driving a car on Curving Lane in Pembroke when he failed to negotiate a sharp left turn.

Another car was coming around the corner in the opposite direction. While swerving to avoid Rubaine, this car lost control and hit the wall of a private house.

Rubaine told Mr. King that he had used his horn when he came around the corner. Mr. King replied: "You drive just like me.''
