Two seasons ago the Class Two official called it quits, citing "unfair practices when it comes to appointments and promotions.'' Now the same reasons have contributed to his latest decision.

Previously, it was the appointment of Gary Cook that provoked the move by Knight after the popular Englishman was given two games to officiate during the International Youth Tournament. But he was back in action the following season.

This time Cook's appointment as referee for tomorrow's Sunday's FA Cup final between Vasco and Devonshire Colts has upset Knight, who feels other longer-serving referees, all of whom have been far more active than Cook this season, deserved a shot at the big game.

"It's an insult to all of the referees. Others deserved this match, not just me,'' said Knight this week.

Knight, one of the busier referees this season, figures officials such as himself, Cal Simons or Lawrence DeShields should have been awarded the match.

"I strongly believe that Mr. Cook's appointment is a slap in the face for all referees who have worked hard this season by making themselves available on Sunday and during night matches,'' said Knight. "What bothers me is that he has only been here for a short period, and he hasn't done many games at all this season. I don't think he deserved this game.'' In his letter of resignation, Knight said he told the BFA "that I was treated unfairly on many occasions and pointed out that the whole time that I refereed I tried to be a fair and good referee. However, I was one who was never looked at that way by certain people on the referees' committee.''
