inequality and discrimination against Bermudians.

"People With A Vision'' has been set up by Mr. Scott Smith, who is campaiging for solutions to unemployment, discrimination and inequality in Bermuda.

Earlier this week, the group held its first public meeting at which more than 50 people turned up including Transport Minister the Hon. Maxwell Burgess and United Bermuda Party backbencher Mrs. Grace Bell.

"I was very happy with the response from the meeting,'' said 28-year-old Mr.

Smith. "We want to form this group to look at things that are wrong on the Island.

"If we hear of reports of discrimination we want to go and investigate them,'' he added. "We want to act as a channel for people with a problem.'' Mr. Smith, who has collected more than 300 signatures for a petition calling for solutions to problems such as discrimination, is hoping people will help raise funds to finance the group and fulfill one of its aims to provide scholarships for students. "I have a deep passion for Bermuda and its people and I see that a lot of its people are angry. They are angry about discrimination and inequality, but people are afraid to say anything,'' added Mr. Smith.

Before the public meeting on Thursday, Mr. Smith met Premier the Hon. Sir John Swan, who he said was supportive. Mr Smith said he was delighted also that two MPs attended the meeting.

Yesterday, Mrs. Bell said she had gone because she was interested to see what Mr. Smith's philosophy was and because she was interested in what was happening in the community.

Mrs. Bell said: "He seemed to have an idea about how he could do something. I have only met Mr. Smith once when I heard some things from him that seemed positive.

"He has not come with a hate message, he is talking about Bermuda and not colour and I will be watching with interest and seeing where he goes from here and whether he gets the support of the community,'' added Mrs. Bell.

The next meeting of the group will be at the City Hall on July 2 at 6 p.m.
