Ferries started running again at lunchtime -- but the bus service, also crippled by the dispute -- were not due to be running again until early this morning.

And garbage collection -- affected by a walkout in the Works and Engineering Department -- also resumed at lunchtime yesterday, with areas of Somerset the first to be tackled.

Main roads were targeted until 4 p.m. and people whose garbage is out for collection on secondary roads were advised to take it back in until the next normal collection day.

On Monday, collections will take place on private and estate roads in Pembroke.

And on Tuesday, a massive clean-up of accumulated waste bags will take place in St. George's. All garbage collection services will return to normal by Wednesday. The Tynes Bay incinerator will keep 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. extended hours until further notice.
