Around 8 a.m. on Thursday, a woman parked her Mazda 323 in a driveway off Lightbourne Lane, near Hermitage Road, and entered a nearby house while leaving her handbag containing the cash on the front passenger seat. When she returned to the car ten minutes later, the bag was gone.
Detectives at the east end are asking that anyone who might have seen a tall, slim, dark-skinned man, possibly in his 30s, wearing all white, and walking through Verdmont Valley Estate carrying a brown bag around the time of the crime, to please contact Acting Det. Sgt. Mark Clarke at St. George's CID.
Several break-ins were reported to Police on Thursday, most of them involving insecure premises, and virtually all of them occurring in Pembroke.
A home on Middle Terrace off Friswells Hill in Pembroke was ransacked, and an amount of jewellery and $500 stolen.
Cash totalling $440 was stolen from a home on Lynwood Drive off the North Shore in Hamilton Parish. The money was in a purse hidden in a closet.
In another burglary, $40 in coins was stolen from a home on Inland Lane, off St. John's Road in Pembroke.
Also in Pembroke, a visitor reported $400 stolen from her guest accommodation.
There was also a report of a trespasser who broke into Devonshire Pre-School on Corkscrew Hill in Pembroke during Wednesday night. Gaining entry by breaking a window, the culprit apparently spent the night sleeping in the school.
