David's will be aiming to prevent a repeat of the 2000 Camel Cup final when they take on Southampton Rangers today.

Last year Western Stars defeated Rangers in the final. But the East Enders, making their season debut, will be aiming to bounce Rangers out a little earlier this year when the teams clash at Somerset (12.00 noon).

In today's other semi-final, Stars take on St. George's at White Hill Field where the champions should start as favourites.

St. George's will also be making their first outing of the year with veteran Charlie Marshall leading the side -- the talented allrounder having transferred from Bailey's Bay.

While Stars, fresh from last weekend's Knockout Cup final win over Southampton by 105 runs, are tipped to get by St. George's, matters could be much closer between St. David's and Rangers, both of whom are seeking to win the title for the first time.

Top allrounder Lionel Cann realises what's at stake for his side, emphasising the fact that St.David's don't want to win just the Camel Cup but every game they play this season.

He also points out that while the Islanders have never won the trophy, they have plenty of players in the team with Camel Cup experience -- besides himself, skipper Clay Smith, Glenn Blakeney, newcomer Dean Minors and Del Hollis.

"We have good seasoned players, we are a confident team, we want to win every game this season,'' said Cann. "I must admit that we haven't won the Camel Cup yet but we have the players who can get it done, it's just a matter of the senior players coming through and bringing the younger ones along.

"Every game is going to be important to us, every game that we play we will approach with confidence, striving to do well this season to bring about nothing but positive results.

"Saturday's game is no exception, we are looking forward to advancing, we are aiming to win, there's no doubt about that.'' However, Cann accepts that matches against Rangers have always been intense with the teams battling on an even basis last season.

"Our record last year saw us losing to them in the Knockout and then beating them in the final league game of the season, which was a victory that enabled us to finish second in the Premier Division, so we have been pretty even,'' said Cann.

Last year's final saw Stars win their third Camel Cup title with a 47-run triumph over Rangers. Stars scored 267 with veteran Ricky Brangman stroking 50 while Rangers' reply saw them finish on 220 with another veteran, Clevie Wade, scoring 57.

Today's two winners will meet in the final at Southampton Oval tomorrow.

A new Commercial League season gets underway tomorrow with a full slate of matches. All eight teams who finished the 2000 campaign will again be competing.
