Struggling Trojans face early cup exit

Seven more teams are set to be confirmed for the next round of the FA Cup tomorrow, with at least one Premier Division outfit set to be eliminated from local soccer's foremost knockout competition.

Either Devonshire Cougars or Somerset will find themselves on the outside looking in, and based on current form and past history it would appear the west enders will have to `bite the bullet'.

The once mighty Trojans have yet to taste victory in five outings, their best result being a 1-1 draw against Dandy Town at home.

Add to that the fact that Somerset rarely play well among the close confines of the Den, together with news that players have shown rampant apathy towards training, and prospects dim even further.

Conversely, Cougars come off their first victory of the season -- 1-0 win over Southampton -- looking to add yet another scalp.

Meanwhile, Rangers look to have their hands full in what shapes up as a likewise intriguing tie against Commercial outfit Key West Rangers, who are heavily stocked with recently retired Premier players.

The likes of Ricky Mallory, Joey Weeks and Earl Richardson are all Cup-seasoned veterans with quite a bit of fuel left in the tank, meaning that Southampton should be more than a bit concerned.

Another possible upset may be brewing at White Hill, where top Commercial Division A side MR Onions take on St. David's, who have not exactly been lighting up the First Division.

Likewise Robin Hood seek to extend their run in the competition against First Division pacesetters St. George's, as do Valley in tackling unpredictable Prospect.

In the lone remaining match Somerset Eagles should cruise past Prison Officers when the pair tussle at Malabar.

Mother Nature was the winner last night as inclement weather forced the postponement of the scheduled FA Cup matches at Devonshire Recreation Club.

Hamilton Parish were due to tackle Wolves in the curtain raiser, with Dandy Town and Paget scheduled to battle in a replay for the nightcap.

The decision was made by the referees not to play the matches, with the field said to be unfit.

And with there being a shortage of referees it was elected that, rather than have the games on Sunday, where there already exists a full complement of matches, the contests will instead take place on Tuesday night.

Also scheduled on Tuesday at BAA Field is a Friendship/Shield double header, with PHC meeting Southampton Rangers in the main match, preceded by Young Men's Social Club against Somerset Eagles.
