One of those tipped for the $80,738 job is Crown Counsel Ms Sharon Kenny, The Royal Gazette understands.

She currently focuses on economic crime, and specialised in the field in Canada.

The Crown Counsel position is expected to be approved shortly by the Public Service Commission.

Yesterday Attorney General Mr. Walter Maddocks said the position was last filled around two years ago.

His decision to fill it again was not prompted by any marked rise in economic crime, he added.

But Bermuda should play its part in the international war on money laundering, he said.

"We have also become more concerned with offences that concern foreign currency,'' he said.
