family was jailed yesterday for 90 days for assaulting a Police officer.

Alicia Marie Todd showed no reaction as Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner imprisoned her for kicking a Policeman -- putting him out of work.

But Todd -- an 18-year-old whose mother is Bermudian -- claimed she was beaten by Police and said: "What does he expect if you're punching me and calling me `bitch' and `hoe' (whore)?'' Crown Counsel Wayne Caines told the court a Police narcotics team was operating on Elliott Street at 5.30 p.m. on Thursday and were arresting Jermaine Rawlings under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Former CedarBridge Academy student Todd approached the scene in an "aggressive manner'' Mr. Caines said, and began shouting at the officers.

"What the f**k are you guys doing?'' Todd shouted at Police. "This s**t ain't right! F**k you b******s. You ain't right. I can say what the f**k I like, you ain't taking me nowhere.'' Mr. Caines explained the officers had warned Todd about her behaviour but it continued, in front of schoolchildren and it began to "inflame the crowd that had gathered''.

An Atlanta, Georgia resident, Todd pulled an officer away from the man -- her boyfriend -- and blocked their paths as they tried to recapture the man.

She was "forcibly restrained'' Mr. Caines said, and put in a Police car.

He added: "Once in the car Ms Todd continued to lash out with her feet and fists and kicked officer Wendell Thorpe in the chest which made him immediately feel ill.

"He was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital with severe bruising and soft tissue damage to the right side of the chest and abdomen area,'' Mr.

Caines said. "He is on sick leave and unable to return to duty for some time.'' But Todd responded: "That story is very much twisted. The Police officers that arrested me were calling me all kinds of stuff.

"They was all hitting me and when I was getting out of the car somebody was pulling me by the legs while I was handcuffed,'' she said. "They was beating on me!'' Mr. Warner was unmoved by Todd's explanation and fined her $500 for using offensive words, $500 for violently resisting arrest and jailed her for 90 days for assault causing bodily harm.

He told Todd: "This certainly was a fracas and Police were conducting an operation and you went and got yourself involved.

"What do you expect from putting yourself in a violent situation? You left the US and are trying to tell Bermuda Police how to do their job? You interfered with things that don't have anything to do with you.'' When Todd said "I want to sue'' Mr. Warner replied: "There is a procedure, you can go to Hamilton Police Station and I think there is an independent tribunal that is open to you. Ninety days.''
