Ex-bank employee jailed
stealing from a Bank of Butterfield client's account.
Seepersad pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to one of 11 counts of larceny.
He admitted to stealing $3,206 from an elderly woman's loan account of which he was the administrator on October 18, 1998.
Ten other charges, totaling $8,344.45, were dropped by prosecutor Dorien Taylor.
Magistrate Edward King jailed Seepersad saying neither the summary of evidence or anything lawyer Elizabeth Christopher said in mitigation reduced the need for imprisonment.
Mr. King added that Seepersad had breached the trust of his employer which can neither be "replaced or repaid'' and the theft was "highly inappropriate''.
Seepersad transferred an elderly woman's monthly loan payment into his own account and later attempted to get the woman to sign a document purporting to give him permission to make the transfer.
Once he was arrested he admitted the offence. Ms Christopher explained he lost his job as a personal banking representative and would likely loose his current job.
Seepersad, 32, of Harrington Sound Road, Smith's Parish, had no previous convictions.
Ms Christopher added that he had received counselling in the wake of the theft.
Just this week Seepersad was featured in The Royal Gazette's Career Profile's page with long distance company TeleBermuda Ltd.
