Wade puts Hollis up for PSC
to head the Public Service Commission.
Canon Dr. Arnold Hollis, rector of St. James Anglican Church in Sandys Parish, "would be an ideal person to head this most important position in our community,'' Mr. Wade said in a news release.
The Progressive Labour Party leader first suggested Mr. Gladstone (Tab) Bassett. But Mr. Bassett later issued a statement saying he had never expressed interest in the post to Mr. Wade.
Mr. Wade insists that Mr. Bassett did express interest, or he would not have suggested him. He said he thought Mr. Bassett changed his mind after the Premier spoke to him.
The latest five year-term of PSC chairman Mrs. Jeanette Cannonier expires in the new year. The PLP says that after 15 years, she has held the post long enough.
"Canon Hollis is a well-known Bermudian of unimpeachable character who has his country at heart,'' Mr. Wade said. "He is well-known for his forthrightness and directness.
"As was the case with Mr. Bassett, Canon Hollis was approached prior to his name being submitted to the Premier and he has indicated his willingness to serve,'' Mr. Wade said.
