Foundation to recognise the women of Bermuda
recognised abroad.
The Akinstall Foundation is embarking on a new project which highlights accomplished women of Bermuda.
And in turn the names of the win-ners will be forwarded to the Sara Lee Frontrunner Awards programme in New York, which is an international corporation that focuses on the accomplishments of women worldwide.
The winners of the awards will have $25,000 contributed in their name to a not-for-profit organisation dealing with issues of concern to all women.
Founder of the Akinstall foundation Ms Valerie Akinstall said Bermuda will be the second international country that has ever entered nominees in the award.
"This will be a wonderful opportunity to link the achievements of women in Bermuda to the global market village,'' Ms Akinstall said.
She added: "There are a lot of high achievers on the Island and we are enduring to make their presence known.'' Ms Akinstall is asking women to nominate women who have reached the pinnacle of their careers, performed heroic deeds or overcome physical and/or mental challenges.
The Accomplished Women of Bermuda committee will divide the nomination forms into four categories -- the arts, business, Government, and the humanities.
The committee will forward the final list of nominees to a team which will select a woman for each category.
That team will also be responsible for the creation of a book entitled "The Accomplished Women of Bermuda'', which will serve as an educational tool and reference book.
The deadline for nominations was yesterday.
The book, including the names of the selected local women, is due to be published next year.
