Having reached their $5 million fund raising goal, the Alliance announced plans to begin their first annual fund this year.

Jane Spurling, chairperson of the capital campaign, detailed the requests she has received from the member charities.

"The Bermuda Diabetes Association have asked for funds to continue their follow-up to the epidemiology study and to meet their goal for the year 2000 which is to increase the physical activity of our school children,'' Mrs.

Spurling said.

"They wish funding to produce a pyramid exercise video for all schools.'' The Bermuda Heart Foundation have expressed interest in retaining a cardiac rehabilitation specialist who Mrs. Spurling explained would "provide education and support for patients with heart disease and their families''.

The Bermuda Hospitals Board have asked for funding for a comprehensive bone densitometry service to diagnose treat and manage osteoporosis, while Open Airways, the charity supporting asthma sufferers, have requested funding to send 65 health care professionals through the Asthma Diploma Training Course.

"The Resident's Family Council request is for specialised lifting devices which are urgently needed to assist in the safe and efficient movement of residents to CCU (critical care unit),'' Mrs. Spurling added.
