Dal's injury mars race meet
during a thrilling Boxing Day harness racing meet attended by a large crowd at Vesey Street.
Vasconcelos was driving Crunchtime when he was involved in a collision with Michael Roberts, who was driving Runt's Rocket in the first dash of the two-year-old stakes. Nicholas DeCosta, driving Jennifer Time, went on to win the two-year-old stakes championship.
But it was Eddie Roque who picked up the biggest cheque of the day, winning the three-year-old stakes with Tuxedo's Bowtie and the four-year-olds division with Shamrock's Formal Attire.
Besides the stakes races there were 16 events for older ponies. Grand Willy, driven by Kenny Mills, and Karen Southerland's Diamondway won their heats and in so doing moved up to the 1:08/3-1:10/1 time bar, while TW Second Try, owned and driven by Anthony Rego, continued to perform well, winning her race in 1:12/1 and moving to the 1:10/2-1:13 time bar.
Meanwhile, Grand Marshall enjoyed a successful return to the track under the guidance of Cleveland Maybury, winning the second heat of the Junior Free For All.
Among the double winners were AB's Elite, driven by Adrianna Rego, and the speedy mare Custom Eyes'd who continues to race well for Zeno Cooper. Grand Shady, driven by Michael DeCosta, won the first heat of the Free For All in a close finish with Murray Terceira's Carolina Jubilee.
Nicholas DeCosta drove Brittany Gold to the winners' circle in the second heat of the Free For All with Melody Time and Kenny Mills second, followed by Carolina Jubilee and Grand Shady.
The next race meeting is on New Year's Day and will feature for the first time the Bermuda Stakes Races. There will also be an invitational ladies' race and a veterans' race for drivers 65 and older.
