Astwood, who is in custody waiting Supreme Court sentencing on a separate charge, appeared before Senior Magistrate Will Francis on Friday.
He pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine in Pembroke on December 12 last year.
He was caught with .32 grams of crack.
In Magistrates' Court a person can be fined or opt to spend a day in prison for every ten dollars fined.
Mr. Francis fined Astwood $400, but he opted to serve 40 days in prison instead of paying the fine.
