Ban on political discussions on talk shows may change
Election campaign has been slapped on broadcasters.
And Premier Pamela Gordon backed the move -- but did not rule out a change to broadcasting regulations at some point in the future.
The Telecommunications Commission have advised broadcasters that politics is a no-go area while the Country prepares to go to the polls on November 9.
Ms Gordon said: "That's part of the law -- we're a law-abiding Country and this is the law we have.'' And she added: "Everyone knew this was on the books. It's nothing new.'' But she denied suggestions that the ban could favour the UBP, as talk shows appear to be dominated by supporters of the Opposition PLP.
Ms Gordon said: "It's very unfortunate because we have both sides -- the fact remains the regulations have been in place for a very long time.
"It's not something the UBP has put in place or the PLP have requested. These regulations were passed in Parliament by both sides of the House.'' Ms Gordon added: "We also know that around political times like a call for an election, the talk shows could be misused.'' RADIO RAO
