Novelist Burland beaten, burned

Mr. Burland, 66, was attending a meeting at St. Paul's Church Hall in Paget when he was allegedly attacked by another man without provocation.

The 48-year-old suspect from Hamilton Parish allegedly threw hot coffee at Mr.

Burland, attacked him and pushed him to the ground before leaving.

Mr. Burland was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he was treated for first degree burns on his face and upper left arm.

Mr. Burland returned to Bermuda in 1995 after 25 years of living in England and the United States and now lives at Westmeath Senior Citizens Residence in Pembroke.

A member of the Baha'i faith, he is the creator of around 20 novels and 500 paintings, most of which were inspired by Bermuda.

Works include A Fall from Aloft, A Few Flowers for St. George, The Sailor and the Fox and The Flight of the Cavalier.
