Smith hits late winner

North Village surged into the semi-finals of the Crystal Palace Youth Soccer Cup with a hard fought victory at PHC Stadium yesterday.

A 91st minute extra-time goal from Village striker Justice Smith proved the winner as the two teams put on an entertaining display in the second half and extra time after a dull opening period.

Four goals came in a fast moving second half as PHC took the lead in the 45th minute -- each half was 40 minutse -- through Michael Harford, before Smith notched the first of his two goals, equalising in the 52nd minute.

The young Zebras pulled in front again after 64 minutes as Ibou Barry tallied, but the never-say-die Red Devils drew back to level terms when Kaiwon Saltus netted on the stroke of full-time.

This left it for Smith to emerge as the day's hero, embarking on a breakaway run up the middle, slipping the advancing goalkeeper and side-footing the ball into an empty net.

Devonshire Colts 3, Wolves 2 (after extra time) Devonshire Colts brushed aside a spirited effort by a determined Wolves team to win this game at Bernard Park, thanks to a hat-trick from centre-half Damon Ming.

Wolves controlled much of the play, but in the end it was rough play that led to their downfall as two of Ming's goals came from the penalty spot. The teams were tied 1-1 at the half.

Yesterday's other scheduled Crystal Palace match saw Somerset win by default over BAA, who were unable to field a team.
