Regiment cop turns himself in
$1,000 from Regiment coffers last week has turned himself in, The Royal Gazette understands.
A source said last night the officer surrendered to Regiment authorities yesterday.
A sergeant in rank, he had been the subject of a Regimental Police search for the previous three days.
The wanted RP, reported to have a drug problem, disappeared on Thursday after he collected approximately $1,000 in cash from mess halls at the Regiment's Warwick base.
As duty sergeant on the night in question, he was responsible for collecting and securing the mess halls' proceeds.
It was unclear yesterday if any of the money had been recovered.
Last night, Regiment spokesman Capt. Brian Gonsalves refused to answer questions on the subject, saying he was unauthorised to do so.
Capt. Gonsalves was unable to contact anyone who would comment.
As a military body, the Regiment will be able to independently try and punish the RP if any guilt is eventually established.
