he receives help, according to Magistrate the Wor. John Judge.

Mr. Judge said he would consider sentencing Gerald Smith to a period of community service depending on the findings of a social inquiry report.

Smith, of Loyal Hill, Devonshire, has a long history of breaking and entering, and drug offences, stretching back to 1984. He has already spent long periods in jail.

He was arrested on February 6 after Police investigations into attempted break-ins at T.A. Adderley grocers and the C-Mart grocers, both in Pembroke.

Smith pleaded guilty to both offences but refused to say anything when he appeared in court last week.

Prosecuting, Sgt. Rex Osborne said that at the time of his arrest Smith had no fixed address and was unemployed. He told Police that he had been "living in the bush''.

He later said that he had been living with his uncle in Devonshire and was now working.

Mr. Judge said: "This man is 30 years of age and he is obviously going to end up spending the rest of his life in and out of prison, or we can try and do something for him. It's as simple as that.

"It seems to me that a lot of your problems lie with drugs. I will ask for a social inquiry report with a view to rehabilitation, also with a view to your undergoing a period of community service.''
