Dozens of relatives of 175 cadets on the US Coast Guard Cutter Eagle were due to fly to Bermuda for a long-awaited get-together, but the impending threat of the storm has scuppered their plans.

The US Consul General's office issued the advisory on Friday night after the captain of the three-masted schooner decided to put into Bermuda for food and fuel, before sailing immediately ahead of the bad weather.

The 295-foot ship arrived on Friday and set sail the same afternoon for its home port of New London, Connecticut.

After sailing through the Panama Canal, it was due to arrive on Sunday and stay for three days, so families could meet up and events be held on the vessel.

A cargo vessel loaded with frozen chicken is expected to sail from Bermuda this week.

The Andra is moored in Dockyard after spending close to two weeks undergoing essential repairs following an emergency situation in the North Atlantic.

The Latvian-registered vessel has several thousand tonnes of frozen chicken parts on board, which it was transporting from the United States to the former Russian state.

It ran into trouble 200 miles from Bermuda, losing all power.
