forensics expert arriving on the Island today.

And Police are still appealing for public assistance despite confirmation that a male suspect has been detained.

"We are grateful to several persons who have come forward so far as a result of our appeals,'' Police spokesman Sgt. John Dale said. "However, we still need more information. We are anxiously wanting to trace Miss Herkommer's movements from her sister's home off Pitts Bay Road in Pembroke to the Maritime Museum.'' He said the English pathologist "will assist with the post mortem examination at the request of Commissioner Clive Donald after consultation with Bermuda's pathologist, Dr. John Winnick''.

Officers continued to refuse to answer the most basic questions about the killing.

Sgt. Dale would only say the body was found "near the Commissioner's House'' and refused to be more precise.

He refused to say, even in the most general terms, how Police believe Miss Herkommer was killed.

He could not say what part of Germany she is from or how long she had been on the Island.

And he would neither confirm nor deny persistent rumours that Police were questioning a member of Casemates prison work party responsible for doing gardening in the area.

"We're conducting a murder investigation at a very delicate stage,'' he said.

"It's imperative that we can only release certain amounts of information.'' Commissioner of Prisons Mr. Milton Pringle said his facility is "certainly working along with Police''.

Miss Herkommer was reported missing by her sister, Christine, after she failed to meet her on Front Street as planned.

Her body was found by Police on Good Friday.

She is described as five-foot three-inches tall, weighing 112 pounds, with shoulder length dark-brown hair. She was wearing blue thick-rimmed spectacles, a black skirt with a long-sleeved black and white top of the same material.

The skirt had a horizontal-striped waistband and similar bands at the cuffs of both wrists.
