Zebras fight back from two down

Clevon Hill and Vic Ball gave Colts a 2-0 lead after just nine minutes of play but PHC clawed their way back into contention to earn a well-deserved draw in this Premier Division clash at White Hill Field yesterday.

The Zebras earned their point with goals by Raynel Lightbourne and substitute Tillman Darrell.

The point had to be welcomed by both as it enabled Colts to continue their pursuit of leaders Dandy Town with the two teams remaining tied on points while PHC solidified their fourth place spot.

The two-goal blitz by Colts stunned PHC but the setback proved to be just a temporary one.

It took them just 45 seconds to stamp their authority with Hill scoring from an angle on the left following an impressive build-up down the left flank with Keenan Burchall playing a prominent role.

After nine minutes they went ahead 2-0 when hard-working midfielder Burchall, forward Quincy Aberdeen and Ball combined with the latter whipping a cross home from close in.

PHC gained supremacy immediately when play re-started and the Colts defence was forced to work hard to defend against some promising approach work. Colts' defence was spared after 60 minutes when substitute Tillman Darrell let them off the hook, failing to net PHC's equaliser when he put a cross from Duval Wilson wide of goal from just 13 yards. Colts' first threat of the second half came eight minutes later which saw PHC goalkeeper Carlyle Crockwell dive to his right to save a fine shot from Aljame Zuill who had combined with substitute Lloyd Holder to create the opening.

PHC, who were now allowed to launch numerous attacks, had a close call after 70 minutes when McLee Smith placed a shot just wide from an angle 14 yards out. But the goal they worked so hard for and deserved arrived two minutes later. Forward Stephen Astwood sent a shot towards goal and Darrell directed it to the right of goal and beyond the outstretched hands of a diving Kevin Bean in the Colts goal to level the scores after 72 minutes.
