Goal-happy Hood run riot

Defending Commercial A Division champions Robin Hood outscored Key West Rangers 7-3 during an action packed ten-goal thriller played in heavy rains at St.John's Field on Saturday.

Hood, held to a scoreless draw against fierce rivals MR Onions the previous weekend, stormed to their first win of the season.

Eldon Rego spearheaded the merrymen's attack with two goals while others contributing to Rangers demise were new acquisition Paul McCluskey, Donnca Smyth, Brian Fubler and David Wolffe. A Patrick Richardson own goal best summoned up Rangers' day.

Ronaldo Samuels, Earl Richardson and Richard Wilson replied for Rangers who suffered their second straight defeat of the new season.

"A win against Rangers was certainly a good result for us," said Robin Hood player/coach Derek Scott, a former Bermuda international and Warwick United striker.

"They have the likes of Ricky Mallory, Earl Richardson and Craig Critchlow who have all played at a decent standard in the past and are quite capable of being match winners."

Scott said his team had caught Rangers at the right moment.

"I guess you could say that we got them before they really get into their stride and I anticipate that they will be in the hunt competing for honours. So it was great to jump on them early," added Scott, who witnessed Hood bag yet another league championship last season from the sidelines.

Meanwhile, at nearby Bernard Park, the match between North Village Rams and Tuff Dogs was postponed due to the wedding of a member of the Tuff Dogs team. That game will be played at a later date.

However, at least one representative of Rams was upset after his team, yet to kick a ball this season, were denied the chance to play for a second successive weekend.

"They should have played the match," he argued. "Just because someone is getting married everyone else has to suffer. I don't want to throw cold water on someone else's wedding . . . but the show must go on."

Elsewhere, Lobster Pot bounced back from a season opening loss to PHC Raiders by edging out St.George's All-Stars 3-2 at White Hill Field.

Pot emerged victorious on the crest of goals from Curtis Raymond, Mareh Noah and the ever dangerous Dave Allison.

Herbie Bascome and Sinclair Smith replied for All-Stars who await their first win of the season.

At Shelly Bay, Devonshire All-Stars and MR Onions battled to a 1-1 draw while at BAA Field, PHC Raiders plummeted back down to earth after suffering a 3-2 loss against BAA.

In B Division action, Valley, who were pipped for promotion last season by a single goal, outscored Devonshire Lions 4-3 at Shelly Bay.

Troy Simons netted twice for the home team while Roger Hall and Kevin Isaac both returned to scoring form.

Lions replied through Arthur Sinclair who bagged a pair of goals and former Cougar Shevaughn Smith.

Also at Shelly Bay, Vasco Mariners, relegated at the end of last season, picked up a first win of the season after shutting out Wolves Pack 2-0. Paul Frias and Joe Cunha were both on target for Mariners.

At Malabar, Dockyard Falcons edged West End rivals Somerset Eagles 2-1. Dwayne (Box) DeRosa continued his impressive early season form, keeping his goal-a-game record intact, while Kwesi Hollis notched the home team's other goal. Jerome Richards netted for Eagles.

The match between Prison Officers and Somerset Extros at Malabar didn't get underway after Officers failed to field a team while Pest Control exterminated Prospect/Fire 4-0 at Shelly Bay.

Kenneth Francis netted a pair of goals while Troy Crockwell and Jamie Matthews both opened their scoring accounts for the season.

All match officials have been asked to submit their match reports to Bermuda Football Association offices on the Monday following Saturday's games, no later than noon.

This weekend's top games see North Village Rams hosting PHC Raiders at Bernard Park in A Division action while unbeaten Somerset Extros and Dockyard Falcons square off in an all-West End derby at Somerset Cricket Club in the B Division.
