Association `not recognised'

"We're not trying to be obstructive or anything, but we don't recognise this group,'' said Norman Mastalir of the Canadian Pacific Southampton Princess Hotel.

newly formed managers' association.

"We're not trying to be obstructive or anything, but we don't recognise this group,'' said Norman Mastalir of the Canadian Pacific Southampton Princess Hotel.

"We certainly don't feel that it's a positive move.'' The Bermuda Managers' Association held one of its first membership meetings in the Vernon Temple last week.

BMA spokesman Anthony Santucci said the site was chosen after Southampton Princess Management refused to allow them to meet on the property.

And Mr. Santucci described the refusal as a denial of constitutional rights.

Management at the Sonesta Beach Hotel have given the go ahead for an on-property meeting today.

But Mr. Mastalir told The Royal Gazette the creation of the BMA ran counter to company philosophy.

"We're trying to create an atmosphere of open communication and one in which all managers are empowered,'' he explained. "It does not fit with our corporate culture at all.'' Mr. Mastalir admitted hotel management were in the dark as to why their managers felt a need for extra representation, but planned to meet with them this week.

And he admitted he was disappointed managers did not feel comfortable enough to use existing lines of communication to express their concerns.
