AGs in Bermuda for major conference
converge on Bermuda for a major conference set to concentrate on the legal implications of Britain's recent rewrite of relations with its colonies.
And the major topic up for discussion will be the legal implications of the UK's offer of full citizenship to its remaining Territories and Britain's insistence on tough human rights legislation.
Also to be discussed are Britain's desire to see closer cooperation with overseas authorities on white-collar crime and money-laundering, as well as the international war on drugs.
Attorneys Generals from the five UK Territories in the Caribbean, Bermuda's new political AG Lois Browne Evans, together with officals from Britain and the US, will attend.
Environmental issues, economic and social development and the constitutional relationship between the UK and its Overseas Territories will also be discussed.
Regional anti-drugs drives, law reform and revision in the Territories, as well as the administration of justice in the Caribbean will also be on the agenda.
Attorney General for England and Wales, John Morris QC, MP, will deliver a keynote address.
Solicitor General William Pearce QC will also deliver an opening speech at Paget's Newstead Hotel on Tuesday and Court of Appeal President Sir James Astwood will speak at a dinner on Tuesday night.
