Family Centre receives early Christmas gift

Season of goodwill: BermuniTees owners, Shannon and Lindsey Phillpott, present Martha Dismont, executive director of Family Centre, with a donation from their profits

Business couple Shannon and Lindsey Philpott yesterday donated more than $2,750 to charity the Family Centre.

The pair — who own BermuniTees T-shirts — gave a proportion of their sales to the charity, in line with the philosophy they set out when they opened their business almost exactly a year ago.

Mr Philpott said: “The way we did it was for every T-shirt purchased, buyers voted on who they wanted the money to go to.

“That was very important to us. We wanted to give back to the community and seeing this is our first year in business, it was great to be able to donate something.”

The couple, who also run the Bermuda Candle Company, handed the cheque to Martha Dismont of Family Centre at their festive pop-up store in Washington Mall.

Mr Philpott said: “If you can’t give back to the community, how can you expect the community to be proud to wear one of your shirts? This was very important to both my wife and me.”

BermuniTees feature a range of minimalist island-themed designs like the Bermuda map with the word “home” and BDA and its map co-ordinates, as well as phrases that evoke the country’s culture. The range now features children’s shirts, as well as specialty 24-karat gold-plated barware and canvas tote bags.

Mr Philpott said: “As always, 15 per cent of proceeds on all our products will be donated to a charity of our customers’ choosing, with Family Centre being the first to receive the donation.”

The all-cotton shirts are also available at retailers, including Urban Cottage in Hamilton and the Pulp & Circumstance gift shop in the US departure area.

The pop-up store will be open until the end of the year and online ordering via the firm’s website will be available next year.
