Escaped suspect walked out of cell
allowed to walk out of his cell at Hamilton Police Station.
Roger Lightbourne, 24, of Hartle Drive, Sandys, was sentenced to three months in prison for his escape from custody.
Lightbourne's sentence came two weeks before the alleged offence, for which he was in custody, will be heard in court.
Crown Counsel Mr. Brian Calhoun did not read out the offence as Police are still investigating the matter but stressed that part of the reason Lightbourne was in custody was due to a court warrant.
Lightbourne walked out of his cell on Saturday, October 31, and his escape led to a major manhunt.
Police finally found him during a raid at a house in Devonshire, the following Friday.
Defending, Mr. Ed Bailey said: "There was no force used in breaking from the Police station. He simply walked from there.
"It amounted to a certain amount of negligence which is being investigated by the Police. Mr. Lightbourne was given the opportunity to walk straight from the Police station.'' Senior Magistrate, the Wor. Will Francis said he had considered the facts and Lightbourne's past history in sentencing him to three months.
Mr. Francis said that time already spent in custody would be taken into consideration.
Lightbourne will next appear in court on Friday, November 27.
