But Department director Mr. Brenton Roberts has declined to comment on the proposal, other than to say: "We are looking into the trails being useful for all sorts of groups.'' Mr. George Hammond, chairman of the Railway Trail Advisory Committee, said "the idea of putting down paving to improve the trails'' had been discussed at committee meetings.
"Portions of the trails are not good. At one point someone did suggest that we tarmac parts of the Railway Trail for wheelchair access.
"However, there has been no decision to do that at this time.''
