Charity committee to hold seminar

preservation and enhancement of voluntary action in the community, will be sponsoring a special presentation directed towards Bermuda's charities and voluntary groups.

The seminar, entitled "One Head, Many Hats - The Critical Role of the Nonprofit Board'', will be held at the Hamilton Princess Hotel on Thursday, September 24. The guest speaker will be Ms Nancy Axelrod, executive director of the National Center for Nonprofit Boards in Washington DC. Ms Axelrod has served as a volunteer, board member, and board development consultant to numerous nonprofit organisations.

Her presentation will concentrate on the growing roles and responsibilities of voluntary boards. She will also point out the components of an effective board, and ways to strengthen the performance of charity or voluntary groups.

A question and answer period will follow Ms Axelrod's address, and audience members will be encouraged to participate in an open discussion on the challenges and problems facing local voluntary organisations.
