Adrian Crockwell, 57, of Middle Road, admitted on Wednesday in Magistrates' Court to keeping a dog which caused harm to another dog.

Sgt. Rex Osborne, prosecuting, said a woman was walking her dog on Middle Road near Waterlot Inn on August 24 when she saw Crockwell's dog.

The dog came up to her dog and subsequently bit it on the neck. She took her pet to an animal hospital, where it was treated for a minor injury and released.

In his defence, Crockwell said the incident was "very quick and very minor''.

He said the dog was being taken for a swim and does not normally roam around freely. "The dog is playful,'' he added. "He isn't a vicious dog of any sort.'' Crockwell said he knew the woman whose dog was bitten and told the court charges would not have been brought if he had been at the scene of the incident.

Senior Magistrate, the Wor. Will Francis said he would give Crockwell the benefit of the doubt and fined him $150.
