Bermuda to face Guyana ahead of Gold Cup
The Bermuda football team will face Guyana in an international friendly at the National Stadium next Thursday, the final preparation match before Kyle Lightbourne’s squad departs for the Concacaf Gold Cup.
Guyana are one of 16 countries that qualified for the Gold Cup and will be making their first appearance in the regional tournament along with Bermuda.
The previous time Bermuda and Guyana met the match ended 1-1 in a World Cup qualifier in 2011.
After Bermuda’s 2-1 victory over São Miguel Azores Select last weekend, the Bermuda Football Association are hopeful there will be a similar number of spectators to support the team as they embark upon their journey to the Gold Cup.
Lightbourne’s side face Haiti in their group B opener at the Estadio Nacional in San José, Costa Rica, on June 16 before playing Costa Rica, at the Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas, on June 20 and Nicaragua at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey, on June 24.
Guyana, who finished seventh in the Nations League qualifiers, two places below Bermuda, play the United States at Allianz Field, St Paul, on June 18, Trinidad & Tobago at the FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland on June 22 and Panama at the Children’s Mercy Park, Kansas City, on June 26.
Guyana are coached by Michael Johnson, the former Birmingham City and Derby County defender.
Gates will open at 6pm ahead of kick-off at 8pm. Ticket prices are $25 for adults and $15 for under-12s and seniors. VIP tickets are $75, which includes premium seating, meal served from 6 to 7.30pm and two complimentary drinks. Tickets can be purchased from the BFA office, Pro Shop and online at PTix.bm.
Meanwhile, tickets for Bermuda’s three Gold Cup matches can be bought from the BFA office at the Clyde Best Centre of Excellence in Prospect.
