Devonshire Colts 2 Somerset Trojans 1

Town after a slim victory over a jaded Trojans' side at White Hill yesterday, thanks to a second-half winner by striker Aljame Zuill.

Zuill's clincher was a scorcher, coming when he drilled a shot home on the turn from close in after receiving a cross on the left from hard-working midfield player Jermaine Belboda after 48 minutes.

The goal, which enabled Colts to maintain hold of second place, tore the heart out of the seventh placed Trojans who were unable to fight back and offer any sort of challenge after falling behind.

Frustration really set into their camp when referee Richard Knight sent their highest-ranked officials off the bench for shouting criticism his way -- assistant coach Gary Mallory was ordered away early in the second half and coach Norbert Simons close to the end.

Perhaps both men would have better served their team had they concentrated on using their vocal chords to blast their players who clearly needed this sort of motivation to lift their performance after Zuill put them behind 2-1.

For the majority of the second half the Trojans were uninspiring with their front line players seldom able to cause the defence any concern until the end when Karl Roberts sent a 19-yard blast that goalkeeper Kevin Bean sank to his knees to smother.

Colts took a deserved 1-0 lead after 28 minutes when Quincy Aberdeen on the right wing coolly dribbled by two defenders to cross for Clevon Hill to score from close in.

Trojans though remained competitive with Dwight Basden a constant threat, coming close after 19 minutes when his shot from an angle on the left hit the foot of goalkeeper Bean and bounced for a corner.

Inspired by the 1-0 lead Colts eventually grabbed a slight edge with Keenan Burchall and Aberdeen angling shots inches wide and high from just outside the box.

But the Trojans always managed to counter attack and it wasn't a surprise when they grabbed the equaliser a minute before the half when right back Galvin Butterfield created the opening for Basden to blast the ball home from close range.
