hospital in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The accident happened on Front Street at about 12.40 a.m. when two auxiliary cycles collided.

Although one rider only received minor injuries and did not have to be detained in hospital the second crash victim, 17-year-old Chiwun Smith, is still in the intensive care unit of King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where last night a spokesman described his condition as stable.

Mr. Smith, a Saltus Grammer School student from Stepney Lane, Pembroke, has regained consciousness but has not been able to explain to Police how the accident occurred.

Last night Mr. Smith's father, Brent, said: "We're completely in the dark as to what happened.

"We have been able to speak to Chiwun but he doesn't remember anything about the accident.'' Anyone with any information should contact Hamilton Police Station on 295-0011.
