Pitt, Ascento triumph again

play of their opening two rounds. But they did just enough on Saturday and Sunday to collect the Bermuda Four-Ball Golf Championships for a second successive year.

Having raced into a three shot lead with rounds of 68 and 66 on Thursday and Friday, the local pair finished with a 71 and a 69 to nip former winners Dennis Connors and Dan Rourke of the US by a single shot.

Pitt/Ascento carded a 274 total compared to the 275 of Connors and Rourke who completed the 72-hole Port Royal tournament with a pair of 69s.

Third place went to another American pair, Ken Kinkopf and Mike Kelley on 278.

Meanwhile, in the 54-hole ladies championship, Bermuda's Alisa Hardy and Madeline Joell romped to massive 23-stroke victory. Hardy and Joell carded rounds of 74, 72 and 70 for a 216 total, leaving second placed Valerie Nearon and Winnie DeSilva (239) far behind.

In the net division, Al DeRosa and Paco Gomez took the men's title with a 260 total while Jan Bath and Mary Ellen Hurton on 208 were the ladies winners.
