House in November as plans to renovate have been set.

Last Friday the House and Grounds Committee announced it had met with officers at the Ministry of Works and Engineering to discuss the proposed facelift.

The Ministry approved plans to move Supreme Court Two from upstairs to downstairs and with the move, the entire ground floor will house the judiciary and the upper floor will house the Legislature.

"This move, combined with the relocation of the public rest rooms on the ground floor, will allow for the building to have a public entrance on the eastern side and a business entrance on the western side,'' the committee said.

It added: "This move is facilitated by the moving of the law library into the space that is currently occupied by bathrooms and the courtyard. It is envisioned that these moves will greatly enhance the judiciary's use and enjoyment of this floor.'' The committee also said the removal of Court Two, combined with new restrooms on this floor allow for the logical expansion of certain spaces on this level, such as the Tea Room. It is also proposed to enlarge the offices of the Legislature.

"While it is necessary to phase these proposed changes over a period of time, it is envisioned that once the renovations are complete, this historic structure will have the most modern utility systems and a greatly improved layout.

"This renovation will not only allow it to house its current functions in a more productive manner but will also enable the building to remain both a productive Government facility and a positive national symbol for many years to come,'' the committee added.
