Heavy rain forces cup final delay
soccer finals. And Bermuda Football Association immediately rescheduled the games for tonight at National Stadium.
The decision will favour PHC Zebras and Young Men's Social Club who had key players returning yesterday afternoon from Panama with the Bermuda Under-23 team who failed to qualify for the Olympics following a 0-0 draw with Cuba on Friday night.
Instead of having to race from the airport to the stadium in time for the final, PHC's Stephen Astwood and Cory Dowling were given an extra day to rest from the two gruelling Olympic games -- the first of which ended in a 1-0 defeat to Panama.
They are expected to be in PHC's squad of 16 as the club look to add the Friendship Trophy to the league title they won last weekend.
Devonshire Colts' season comes down to tonight's match and next Wednesday's FA Cup semi-final against Southampton Rangers which will determine whether they are successful in defending the two cup titles they lifted last season.
Tonight's opening match at 7.00 sees St. George's take on Social Club in the Shield final.
The teams played to a 1-1 draw in the league recently but Social Club, the highest scoring team in the First Division this season with 40 goals in 14 league matches, will have a better chance of winning now that national team player Tokia Russell is available. He, too, returned from Panama yesterday and would have missed Sunday's final had the match been played.
