A female visitor told Police she was returning to her room at the Edgehill Manor guest house around 11.30 p.m. on Wednesday when she felt someone pull at her purse as she unlocked her door.

The woman was pulled to the ground and dragged while she attempted to hang onto her bag.

Her companion pushed the thief to the ground, but the man escaped down Rosemont Avenue.

An undisclosed quantity of coins were stolen from a broken cigarette machine in the Ms Softy's Restaurant on Middle Road, Southampton on Thursday.

Entry was gained through a smashed window.
