Fisher sets meet record
another impressive performance overseas on Friday night.
Competing indoors for the first time, Fisher set a new meet record in the rarely-run 600 yards at the Coors Metropolitan Athletic Congress event in New York City.
And 45 minutes later she crossed the line first again in the 800 metres. The meet was part of the Masters (over 30) Grand Prix series, although several younger competitors took part.
Fisher was particularly pleased with her 600 yards victory, clocking a record one minute, 24.58 seconds and beating American Doreen Best, who recently won the Colgate 800 metres championships.
Her 800 triumph in 2 minutes, 17 seconds, was well outside her personal best but, added Fisher: "I was pretty tired after the first race.'' Added husband/coach Eddie: "The 600 was a terrific victory for Jennifer. Only a handful of men beat her time.'' Fisher is expected to leave for Argentina this weekend where she will compete in the Pan-Am 1500 metres and probably the 800 metres.
