Local play selected for top US Black Theatre Festival
A Bermudian theatre group has been invited to perform at this year's National Black Theatre Festival in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
Creative Perceptions, formed by Ms Patrice Frith in 1989, will present Collage, a play written by Ms Frith and produced at City Hall last year.
Announcing their invitation to take part, Ms Frith said she felt honoured that her group has been chosen.
Collage, which was directed by Enid Christopher, depicts the lives of employees at a local law firm.
"I hope that Bermuda will come along and support us. Over the next few months we will be holding several fund-raising events to cover the cost of airfares, hotels, and so on,'' she said.
These include part proceeds from the comedy show Khalfani, to be held at the Spinning Wheel on April 8 and 9 will be donated to Creative Perceptions.
There will be a Dance for Pre-Teens at Admiralty House on April 10, a Mothers' Day Cruise on the Lady Tamara on May 9, a stall in Bernard Park on Bermuda Day on May 24, and a formal Jazz Supper Show at the Clocktower at Dockyard on June 5.
There are also plans for a Bingo Night at Warwick Workmen's Club on June 21 and a Farewell Cruise on July 24.
The Festival runs from August 2 through August 7 and tickets can be obtained by calling the national Black Theatre Festival at 919-723-7907.
They will be joining other groups from all over the US who will perform at various theatres in the city. Performances culminate each evening in a Celebrity reception held at the Stouffers Winston Plaza.
