The fund invests in companies in China, especially ones operating outside Shanghai, Shenzen and Hong Kong.

Edinburgh-based Martin Currie Investment Management Ltd. and China Securities Corp., China's second largest securities broker, have established the Heartland Investment Consulting Ltd. to provide research from five regional offices into investment opportunities in the country's hinterland.
